"Sailing" down the Kissimmee River

The Kississimme River forms the boundary between Polk and Osceola counties. Polk County is on the west side, and Osceola on the east side The River flows through several lakes with campsites. Below are other sites on the river itself.

There is work being done to restore the river to its original channel. Some of the info may have changed. I will update as I can.

Just North of the S65A lock & dam is an oxbow of the original river. There is a peninsula on the South shore of this oxbow. The ground is high, sandy, and level, making it an excellent campsite. There is some seclusion from the water, and most of the river traffic bypasses this oxbow, making this a good naturist site. Just west of here are the ruins of the town of Kicco. Concrete sidewalks mark the area where the town was before it was abandoned in the 1920's.
