Panther Key (Ten Thousand Islands)

DeLorme Florida Atlas & Gazetteer page 110 grid D2

Panther Key is the long North-South lying island Northwest of Round Key in the Gazeteer. The West side of the island has the best campsites. There is a good amount of beach to hike, especially at low tide. One thing to watch for at hight tide: if you hear a voice drifting from down the beach, it may be a tour boat. They are not that noisy when approaching from downwind, and they may surprise you. As I was stretched out in my lawnchair in my birthday suit reading a book, I looked up and there was the boat maybe 30 feet away! Most of the tourists looked away, but a few did wave. The tour guide said absolutely nothing. (The same boat came by the next day, but was much farther offshore.)

Whitehorse Key (to the West) has several campsites also, without the tourboats.
