Lopez River Campsite

Generally speaking, the Lopez River Campsite is not a good naturist campsite. This is because it's a land site, and because it's on the main Wilderness Waterway channel.

Land sites are very buggy. (The difference between a land site and a beach site is, well, the beach. Beach sites have good breezes to keep the bugs in check. Land sites generally do not. Only during the colder months are the bugs tolerable, and who wants to be naked when it's cold?

Nevertheless, the one time I camped there (in December), the weather was between cold fronts (and therefore warm enough for comfort), and the bugs hadn't recovered yet. There were some mosquitos, but they were easily manageable with repellent.

I had not planned to stay here, but my motor broke down, and it wasn't feasible to row to my campsite before dark (not to mention rowing back to my vehicle afterward).

No one was at Lopez River, but I thought that was too good to be true, given its nearness to Everglades City, and the fact it was December.

Sure enough, within the hour a party of four arrived. I said I was broke down, and asked if they minded me being there. They said it was no problem, and encouraged by their British accents, I asked did they mind that I was a nudist. They didn't mind at all (the British tend to be more accepting of nudism than the average American).

I didn't get the motor running, so headed back home the next morning. But it was a nice enough stay while it lasted.
