Worldwide, hundreds of children a day are needlessly put to death.
They are not theives, beggars, or for that matter in any way delinquent. They are not even generally considered undesireable by their governments.
Their own parents usually PAY to have them put to death. They get away with it because of a legal technicality in most of the countries involved: children are not considered persons until they complete the process of passing through the birth canal (or are surgically removed by Caesarian Section).
(It wasn't that long ago that slaves in most countries were not considered persons either. If a man killed his slave he was not prosecuted. Few countries would accept that kind of thinking now.)
The reasons given for these "contract infanticides" usually sound reasonable to the parents. They can't afford to raise a child; a child would disrupt their lives; etc. Apply those same reasons to other people however, and they suddenly don't sound so reasonable. For example, if a man loses his job and can no longer adequately support his wife and children, it is not reasonable for him to put them to death. If a wife becomes seriously injured this will probably disrupt the husband's and children's lives; it is not reasonable for any of them to be put to death for it though.
Except in the RARE occasions when a mother's life is threatened by the pregnancy, or the pregancy is the result of a rape, the underlying reason parents are willing to kill their unborn children is an unwillingness to take responsibility for their own actions.
We know what causes babies nowadays. If a person is going to engage is sexual activities, they need to be aware that a child is ALWAYS a possible outcome. If you're not willing to take on the responsibility of assuring the child is raised properly, then you need to assure you don't get in the situation in the first place.
If you have a lapse in responsible behaviour and a pregnancy results, that doesn't mean you can't still be responsible. Even if you think yourself incapable or not competent to raise a child, there are ALWAYS people eagerly waiting to adopt. Your child does not have to die for your mistakes. You can literally be a life-saver.
You CAN help reduce the slaughter. Make a difference. It's not just your life. It's your baby's life as well.
Be responsible.
