Naturist camping on Hatchineha's South Shore

DeLorme Florida Atlas & Gazeteer page 86 grid D2

East of the narrow part of Lake Hatchineha, on the southern shore is a nice camping area. When I saw it in September 2007 and someone had put a picnic table there.

Cows sometimes wander through. (Ranchers lease grazing rights from the South Florida Water Management District, which owns most of the shoreline of Hatchineha.) Don't harrass the cows. Just live and let live.

Air boaters pass by this campsite fairly frequently. It would probably be a better week day site than a weekend one. I have camped there during the week and found it to be very peaceful.

The water level changes quite a bit. At times the 'beach' is a good wading area. At other times, you will have to walk ashore through the mud, possibly leaving your boat out away from shore.

Canoes are well suited here, but any small boat should be ok, even if you have to paddle your boat in, or drag it.
